Meet the iAlyze team.
iAlyze is a veteran-owned company founded in 2019 in Chapel Hill, NC.
iAlyze was founded to automate procedures for detecting impairment from alcohol and marijuana that were designed by the National Transportation Safety Board (NHTSA) and have been used by police for decades. To date we are not aware of any similar automated technology which is in broad use.
Our original focus was on alcohol impairment detection at roadside stops by police. We subsequently concluded that the tests conducted for marijuana impairment at police stations could also be automated and indeed incorporated into the roadside test for alcohol impairment.

A major change in the market for impairment detection technology occurred in November 2021, when legislation was passed requiring all new vehicles sold in the United States have an alcohol impairment detection system incorporated in them no later than 2027.

iAlyze technology can be used in such a system to track eye behavior and detect impairment from alcohol or marijuana. The legalization of marijuana in many states means some employers can no longer conduct random blood or urine tests for marijuana, which has been the practice for decades. In high-risk industries, impairment from any substance can lead to property damage, injury, or even death. There is not currently a non-invasive marijuana impairment test suitable for the workplace. iAlyze believes its technology can address this significant need.

We’re currently beta testing our software and have completed a preliminary design for our handheld device. We are actively pursuing discussions with the DOT and NHTSA. iAlyze has had preliminary discussions with uniformed police regarding both the testing sequence and device design features to make the process of evidence collecting more efficient.
iAlyze filed its initial patent in December 2019.
